Fox Fodder Flowers

I know everyone is pretty exhausted by the topic at this point and it may seem a little on the late side to speak up, but I am compelled to throw my two cents in.

I’m okay with pumpkin spice lattes.

They are good enough. They tend to fall short by the end. The sweet is too sweet and the spice is no longer a thing. But they get the job done. It’s similar to pumpkin pie in that way. No one ever wants a second slice of pumpkin pie. Part of one is enough for most of us. Except my mother.

Mary loves pie. There’s always half a pie in the fridge at all times. She has it for breakfast. She’s 73 and can unload a truck bed full of hay alone so she has the right. She’s also who I call when I have to move furniture which is more often than I have to move furniture.

Pumpkin spice lattes can be a good antidote. There are times when things can hollow you out something like panic. And when that floating feeling thing takes hold in the pit of the stomach and flavors everything sour, you need the full dose of sweet. It’s a bit like an embrace from an emotive uncle who wears too much cologne. It feels good at first but then lasts a little too long and ends up making you feel a little sweaty and slightly claustrophobic. But you’re still happy for the hug.

It’s November now and it is 72 degrees. Also it hasn’t rained in 60 days. No one seems to be talking about that— or pumpkin spice lattes.
